Knowing your different squads and how to utilize them in different situations is also a vital component.

Destructible cover such as fences and tables will only protect you and your squad for so long before being flushed out into the open, so you need to choose your cover wisely. The type of cover you decide to use can also play a big role in your success or failure. To successfully progress through each area it is all about moving from cover to cover, using your fire teams to lay down suppressing fire, and then run flanking maneuvers to take out your enemy. The simple method of running and gunning is not a viable option here as you will assuredly find yourself gunned down in the process, even on the easier difficulties. Only time will be able to tell if the Brothers in Arms franchise will be able to win the war being waged in the WWII genre, but their chances look promising.Playing through the game is all about strategy when approaching an engagement with an enemy position. We were happy to hear that it'll support up to 32 players online, but we were a bit sad to hear that the Skirmish mode has gone the way of the dodo.

Rather than just hopping online and taking on any and all comers, players will now be matched up depending on their on and offline successes with the game. Our biggest question heading into the show was about the game's multiplayer, but the producer told us that the multiplayer mode is being completely overhauled. From what we've seen of the single-player game, it's looking like Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway will be yet another stellar WWII title from Gearbox. There will even be a radio man that can call in airstrikes to take out pesky tanks or entrenched foes. You've also got MG and mortar teams under your command, so you can easily pin enemies down before flanking them with one of your standard teams. They'll be able to jump over barriers for the most direct route, take the long way around, or sneak up on enemy positions. For instance, you can now use the face buttons to modify your commands, meaning you can tell your men which method to use when moving into a position. You'll still be able to command your assault and fire teams, but there's now a lot more flexibility when giving orders. Of course, the coolest thing about the Brothers in Arms games is the squad command system, which is just as easy-to-use as ever. You can also do stuff like crawl under trucks and receive help from townspeople in spotting hidden enemies.

The game features a cool cover system, and cover will gradually degrade (depending on the weapon used) as it's being shot. You'll have a bit more control over your environment, too, as Baker can now hurdle small walls and blast through wooden doors. There won't be any distinct levels, as the developers are creating a huge, seamless world that players can explore to their liking, finding the best routes to their objectives. Like the previous games, Hell's Highway is a first-person tactical shooter, but it's undergone a drastic facelift, both cosmetically and mechanically. We're not sure exactly where Baker and the rest of the recon team come in, but you can be sure that there won't be much of a happy ending. Although the mission began as an offensive, the Allies soon turned it into a rescue mission after a number of problems turned it into the Germans' final major victory of the war. You'll be taking part in Operation Market-Garden, one of the turning points of the war, as well as its largest airborne operation. While the second game in the franchise put you in the weathered combat boots of Sergeant Joe "Red" Hartsock, Hell's Highway once again puts you in control of Captain Matt Baker, the hero of the first game.

Now, the series is about to make the leap to next-gen with Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway. The company improved on the game with the release of Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood, which fine-tuned much of the first game's core gameplay while leaving everything that made it great. Gearbox managed to impress even the most jaded gamers with the original Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30, a game that combined intense, cinematic action with the most innovative command system of its time. It's tough enough to make a mark in the crowded WWII FPS genre, but it's even harder for developers to create something that gamers have never seen before.
